Any firm or corporation shall be eligible for Associate Membership in the Institute which:

  • Supplies directly to firms or corporations eligible for Regular Membership materials, equipment or services, provided such materials, equipment or services are either incorporated in the finished spring product or are used directly in the manufacture and/or design of such product;

  • Has a reputation for business integrity and sound character; and

  • Meets such other uniform requirements as may be established by the board of directors.

This membership shall continue in force from year to year until written resignation has been presented to the board of directors and dues paid to date of resignation. It is also agreed to abide by the rules of the organization.

_______________________________________________, the company. hereby applies for associate membership in the Spring Manufacturers Institute and agrees to pay dues annually in accordance with the following schedule, or with such schedule as may be approved by the vote of the membership. (See dues schedule below.)
Meetings:
Representatives of the Associate Member firm may attend the conventions of the Institute.
Participation rights and duties:
1. Associate Members may be asked to furnish personnel for committee service.
2. Associate Members may make recommendations promoting the interests of the spring industry or may make suggestions on technical problems of general interest to the Institute.
3. Associate Members may participate in the general membership meetings of the Institute, shall receive pertinent Institute communications and have other rights and privileges as established by the Board of Directors.
Entertainment and exhibits:
1. Such entertainment as may be offered by Associate Members at meetings of the Institute shall be in group form only;
2. An Associate Member shall not display or advertise its product or services at any Institute meeting except by official invitation of the Institute;
3. Failure to abide by these rules shall be cause for expulsion from SMI Associate Membership.

Initial Membership Payment schedule:
Dues will be pro rated according to the date that the membership is confirmed
Those confirmed in the:

  • First and second quarter will pay the full annual dues
  • Third quarter will pay 50% of the annual dues
  • Fourth quarter will pay full dues but will be covered for the entire next calendar year
Dues Schedule: January 1 through December 31
Dues are based upon annual gross sales to the spring industry

Application Process:

This application will be forwarded to a representative of the Membership Committee for verification that the applicant meets all SMI eligibility requirements. Once the application is verified and returned to SMI, the application will be "seconded" by a member of the Board of Directors from the same region as the applicant. The application, bearing these signatures, will be signed by the Membership Committee chairperson as a final step in the review process. At this time, the candidate company will be placed on the mailing list and will receive all materials pertinent to full membership in the Spring Manufacturers Institute.
All candidates for membership will be formally confirmed by the SMI Executive Vice President.
