Occupation: President of Betts Spring Co. in San Leandro, CA.

Industry affiliations: Spring Manufacturers Institute board of directors, SRI board of directors.

Birthplace: Oakland, CA

Current home: Piedmont, CA

Family: Wife, Cheri; daughters, Carolyn (27) and Catherine (23); son, Bill (25).

What I like most about being a springmaker: The pride that comes from being a manufacturer and the commitment from our employees to do their best.

Favorite food: Fresh Pacific salmon, brown rice and sugar snap peas.

Favorite authors: Grisham, Conroy and Ludlum.

Favorite song/musician: Bruce Springsteen “Born in the U.S.A.” and Rascal Flats.

Hobbies: Hiking, fishing, biking, swimming and golf.

Favorite places: The big island of Hawaii and San Francisco.

Best times of my life: Raising our children and all the great family vacations.

A really great evening to me is: An outdoor barbecue on a clear night with the family and friends.

The one thing I can’t stand is: The divide in politics today in America.

My most outstanding qualities are: My passion and commitment to our business, and I try my best to create an environment to achieve success.

People who knew me in school thought I was: A guy who enjoyed people and life.

I knew I was an “adult” when: My wife gave birth to our first child.

If I weren’t working at Betts Spring Co., I would like to: Be a Blue Angels pilot.

The most difficult business decision I ever had to make was: Holding to a tight budget and not investing in capital equipment.

I wonder what would have happened if: I had become a musician.

Role models: My father, Bill Betts Sr.; Ronald Reagan; and my great grandmother, Emiline Betts.

I would like to be remembered in the spring industry for: Being an advocate for strengthening our industry.

But people will probably remember me for: Being outspoken and passionate on issues that affect our industry and associates.
