Curtis John Nicolio

Sandvik Materials Technology

Nicknames: Curt, Gus.

Occupation: Vice president and general manager of Sandvik Materials Technology in Scranton, PA.

Industry affiliations: Spring Manufacturers Institute board member.

Birthplace: Scranton, PA.

Current home: Mayfield, PA.

What I like most about being a springmaker: Is “scrapping” over a piece of business.

Favorite food: My favorite food is Italian. However, I love to experience the local taste everywhere I travel.

Favorite author: Jack Welsh

Favorite music: I enjoy all kinds of music depending on the type of mood I’m in. For example, I like Metal, Rock, Classic Rock, Classical, New Age, Pop, Dance, etc.
By the way, I have never found myself in the mood for Country, yet.

Hobbies: Building my own house, woodworking, metalworking, inventing, skiing, snowmobiling, riding my quad, hiking and, recently, winemaking.

Favorite places: The North Shore of Oahu, HI.

Best times of my life: Every new day begins the best time of my life.

A really great evening to me is: My idea of a great evening has evolved over time. Today it’s spending time with my family, good friends, great food, fine wine and lots of each.

The one thing I can’t stand is: People who lack integrity.

My most outstanding qualities are: Integrity, dedication, hard working, competitive, won’t quit.

People who knew me in school thought I was: Confident, charismatic, cocky.

I knew I was an “adult” when: Not sure I’m there yet.

If I weren’t working at Sandvik Materials Technology, I would like to: Be a truck driver.

The most difficult business decision I ever had to make was: To “displace” employees.

I wonder what would have happened if: My parents hadn’t prohibited me from becoming a truck driver and advised me to get a BS in mechanical engineering and an MS in finance and investments.

Role models: My parents.

I would like to be remembered in the spring industry as: Someone “who made a difference in the industry.”

But people will probably remember me for: I’ll have to let you know.
